The PlayStation 5 has been an undeniable success allowing players to experience the best that gaming has to offer. From blockbusters like God of War Ragnarok to future boundary pushers like Stellar Blade, owners of the PlayStation 5 are going to have a field day playing all of these games that will be published this year and in the future. The power of the PS5 is going to allow the owners to play all modern games for at least 3 or more years to come.

However, recent rumors about the PS5 Pro and Sony’s take on the PS5’s life cycle caught a lot of fans off guard. CNBC interviewed Serkan Toto of Kantan Games and found out that Sony is planning to release a ‘PS5 Pro’ in the second half of 2024. Toto also mentioned that another reason why they are planning a PS5 Pro release is because of GTA VI and how the game requires a great “piece of hardware” that can give stability to its graphical fidelity.

With this announcement, a lot of people are expecting a cut in the base PS5’s price. Even though it is entirely possible, we cannot guarantee a price drop since the hardware sales for Sony aren’t doing too well. The profit margins are lower than it has been in quite a few decades. In fact, Analysts believe that the hardware sales for the company would still be on a decline despite the PS5 Pro’s launch since ultimately, people are looking for a good console at a cheap price, like the PS3.

What Do We Know About The PlayStation 5 Pro So Far?

The PSVR 2 (Image via Sony)

An insider suggests that the PS5 Pro could release in November 2024 with multiple upgrades over the base PS5. Aside from the usual SSD upgrade, the console might get an AI boost thanks to an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) developed by AMD. There have also been leaks indicating that the upgrades also include RAM and GPU boosts that will make 8K gaming a reality. This would go hand in hand with Sony’s 8k TVs.

As far as price is concerned, Sony is not afraid to increase the money and charge more for good hardware. Judging by previous releases for consoles like the PS4 Pro which was $499 on release, it would be safe to say we are looking at a release price of $599 to $650, maybe even more. The reason for this could be the price of the PSVR2 as well which costs $549. Preparations for the release are now in full force since the dev kits have already been distributed to third-party studios. Hence, 2024 is sure to be an eventful year in gaming one way or the other.

Sony has unveiled the DualSense V2 controller for PlayStation 5 which will provide a substantial upgrade to the last version. This controller will follow the same form factor as the PS5 controller with improvements to allow for longer game sessions. Sony has been actively creating new controllers to level up their service to the community and make their PlayStation 5 console a worthy investment.

The new DualSense controller will arrive with a larger battery backup allowing players to go on for 12 hours straight in one charge. Additionally, it will also arrive with certain offers with a charging station to simply the recharging experience. It will be available for purchase online and from authorized retailers spreading across the world.

It had been reported by various users that the older version of the DualSense controller was able to give an average of 5 hours of battery life, while PS4’s DualShock controllers gave a longer battery performance. This new controller refresh can be seen as a big step from Sony to provide a better experience with the new generation console.

While this upgrade is being implemented to refreshed PlayStation DualSense controllers, fans still prefer the use of rechargeable AA batteries which can be swapped in no time. Furthermore, fans have also been asking Sony to fix stick drift issues that reduced the lifetime of a purchased controller. Nonetheless, the upgraded controllers will likely be included with later console stocks, which is good news for consumers.

What did Sony and PlayStation present at CES 2024 alongside DualSense V2?

Sony presented a plethora of new things at CES 2024. One of the wildest announcements that Sony made was sharing their partnership with Honda Afeela EV. It has been shared that the upcoming electronic automotive will support DualSense Controllers for controlling the car.

While this concept is not new, many creators have taken up projects to control their cars with the help of a controller. There is a fair share of problems with this idea, which was seen with the OceanGate accident that happened last year. Since Sony and Honda partnered together to make the project come true, it might be possible that precautions will be implemented.

In October 2023, Sony revealed their refreshed look for the PlayStation 5 console in a smaller form factor, widely known as the Slim version. At CES 2024, many cover variants for the updated console were spoken about. The console is usually available in a white color scheme, other color options like Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver are also available for the newly updated console.

PS5 Pro has been a part of “Project Trinity” which was first reported in July 2022. The project had mentions of PS5 Pro, Slim, and the next console. A few months ago, the Slim version was confirmed as it was released as a refreshed design for the main console.

Now that GTA 6 has been revealed, it is a good time for Sony to release their upgraded version of the next-gen console. Reports initially suggested that PS5 Pro will be revealed with Rockstar’s latest franchise, but this is not the case anymore. According to the latest leaks, the upgraded version of PS5 might be showcased in late 2024.

The leaks on the specifications came up due to developer kits being handed over to third-party studios as stated by Tom Henderson. He even mentioned Sony’s concern when sharing the piece of hardware with other studios due to the risk of leaks.

After hearing about PS5 Pro, fans are optimistic that it will release alongside GTA 6. Since the game will already be pushing current-gen systems to the max, fans are willing to get the best for themselves. Although this is good news for many, some people are skeptical that Sony might charge a lot for it.

Fans are skeptical of the PS5 Pro’s leaked spec sheet

PS5 Pro will be shipping with a new Zen 4 architecture-based 4nm CPU which has a GPU integrated in it. The GPU will be powerful enough to provide stable 4K 60 FPS gameplay without using any AI upscaling. Additionally, the console can handle Ray Tracing with ease, thanks to RDNA 3 or 3.5.

Overall, the performance of the upgraded version will be almost 50% more than the base version. It will be able to handle 8K upscaling by using the dedicated performance mode without any issues. Lastly, this will be the last major hardware that will be dropped by Sony before the launch of PlayStation 6 in 2028.

All these features sound too good to be true, and some fans believe some of the features will be locked away for the PS6 instead. Fans have claimed that a mid-gen refresh can’t have such drastic leaps, as it will take away the anticipation around the next-generation hardware. However, some believe the next-generation console might not be miles apart, from its predecessor.

PlayStation has been known for exclusive releases since the first console and holds a place in the hearts of plenty. Over time there hve been many releases that have etched their names in the gaming industry for their unique nature and unforgettable storyline. Some of the most popular ones have been released with PS3, which has had many titles that look visually great while providing a one-of-a-kind gaming experience.

In recent years, Sony has moved over to create remakes of their most popular titles for the PlayStation 5 console. Most of these titles have managed to create a lot of hype in the gaming community. Moreover, some of the most notable releases under this initiative include the remakes of Demon Souls, Final Fantasy, and Shadow of Colossus.

Most gamers look forward to sequels for games as they are always curious about what’s new in a story. The same applies to Sony as well, however, some of their classic titles are worth playing again. In recent years, titles like The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Spider-Man franchises have become the face of the console. Thus, to keep the hype alive, Sony tries its best to polish every game to perfection before release.

In 2022, Naughty Dog released a complete remake of their best seller The Last of Us Part 1 on both PC and PS5. While the story of the title has been kept the same, the graphical and cinematic take on the game made it better. Thus, gamers who didn’t get the shot at playing the title in 2013, can try it in modern times.

Even though a decade later, most gamers know about the story of the title, it still managed to uphold its sales. The same story applied to remastered versions of various first-party franchises like Uncharted and Horizon. So far Sony still finds success with the remake or remastered version of their games and will continue to do so.

As per reports and various leaks, Naughty Dog is working on The Last of Us Part 2 Director’s Cut edition, which would be a remake. The game will possibly be released on PC since Sony confirmed previously that first-party games will arrive on various platforms later on. As for PlayStation 5, a native version is planned according to leaks, but only time can say how it will play out.

What other remakes could Sony release for PlayStation 5 in the future?

Few of the most popular titles have already been remade for PlayStation 5, yet we can still hope for others. For instance, Infamous has yet to get a remaster or remake from Sony, and it has been a huge success for the company. The last game was released for PS4 only and nothing has been done for PS5 as of yet.

The franchise was similar to Prototype, which allowed players to feel like a super-human. To strike on nostalgia with fun gameplay, that franchise could be remade in the future. However, many third-party titles will likely be released in the coming years, as well.

For instance, CD Projekt Red is already working on The Witcher remake which will be powered by Unreal Engine 5. The game will be remade by Fool’s Theory under the supervision of CDPR and is still in the early development stage. Apart from that, Max Payne remakes are also on the way, and Redemy Studios has already confirmed its existence.

Likewise, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to release in 2024, and the iconic horror franchise, Silent Hill 2 remake is also under development. Additionally, there are a few other titles that deserve a remake but only time can confirm such a development.

The critically acclaimed Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection launched as a decent PC port that was a little rough around the edges.

Iron Galaxy studios have taken note of the issues and have released the first patch for the game on PC. Update 1.1 fixes one of the most glaring issues plaguing the game and that is mouse input. By adding support for raw input, and uncoupling sensitivity from frame rate, the developers have made the game a lot more responsive. Additionally, the game’s motion blur, which was hit-or-miss based on frame rate, has now been adjusted. However, the developers claim that the fix is less effective at higher frame rates for now.

This, along with a few other issues will be tackled in a future update. Here’s everything covered in the latest update and what’s next for the title.

Uncharted PC Update 1.1 adds raw input support

The Legacy of Thieves collection 1.1 patch notes are as follows:

  • General stability & performance improvements
  • Updated mouse control to use raw input data
  • Removed frame rate dependency for mouse camera sensitivity
  • Updated HDR option to be grayed out instead of hidden when HDR support is not detected or enabled via Windows
  • Improvements to motion blur visibility

Additional developer notes

  • Motion blur’s effectiveness decreases at higher frame rates.
  • We are investigating a solution for users with older CPUs that do not meet the necessary levels of AVX support. Stay tuned for more information.
  • To confirm the patch was successfully installed, verify that your game version number is v1.1.20381.

The Legacy of Thieves collection was released on PC on October 19, 2022, to mixed reviews. While the game itself was highly recommended, the PC port left a lot to be desired. Digital Foundry’s analysis of the game revealed a lack of in-depth display options and poor implementation of features. The biggest complaint was the irregularity of motion blue that seemed to completely miss the object in focus, based on framerates. Additionally, the game’s poor implementation of mouse sensitivity was criticized as well.

Update 1.1 serves as the first step in a series of fixes that will help the PC port shine. Currently, there are no announcements regarding when the next patch will arrive.

Serving as a downer ahead of its launch, Gotham Knights will have a 30 FPS cap on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

This news has rubbed many fans the wrong way, prompting them to take to Twitter and protest the decision. The announcement was made on the game’s official Discord channel and immediately received backlash. Mentioning that co-op and having an open world is resource intensive, the statement says that a simple resolution drop will not suffice for higher frame rates. However, unlike other games that are capped at 30 FPS but offer different performance modes, Gotham Knights will be skipping this system.

This further upset players who feel that having the option for higher frame rates should be standard practice. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a great example that uses multiple display modes. While quality mode prioritizes visuals at 4k, the framerate drops to 30. Those looking for higher framerates can choose performance mode to drop the resolution and up the frame rate to 60 frames and beyond. Here’s how fans have reacted to the debacle.

Fans upset as Gotham Knights is limited to 30 FPS on consoles

Taking to Discord, executive producer Fleur “Flaoua” Marty shared the news about the capped framerate a couple of days ago. In the days since, fans have been sharing their thoughts on Twitter. While most argue that 30 FPS is unacceptable, others are of the opinion that the sacrifice for co-op is worth it. Here are a few fan reactions from Twitter:

On the other hand, PC users will not be subject to this limitation. While this is a plus for PC users, the minimum system requirements for the lowest settings are quite high. Gotham Knights demands a GTX 1660 Ti for minimum settings at 1080p which is considerably higher than other titles. For reference, Marvel’s Spider-Man, which is another open-world game, simply needs a GTX 950, which is a lot less powerful. Fans will be able to see how the title performs in just a few days when it releases on October 21, 2022.

Ubisoft released the Riders Republic as a successor to Steep. Here is our detailed Riders Republic review and its upcoming events.

Just as Ubisoft’s open-world forum was coming under scrutiny for its staleness, the publisher has come out with Riders Republic. It is an open-world racing game that seems like a breath of fresh air.

The game, which is a spiritual successor to Steep, takes most of the elements from the former and mixes it up for a vast, varied and at-times silly yet fun-filled experience.

Also read: Faker Kkoma Worlds: Faker and Coach kkoma interact with one another after DK vs T1 semifinals.

The sheer variety that the game offers and the scope to juxtapose make it something difficult to say no to.

Ubisoft has a rich history in Open World games.

With the option to switch trails and the existence of different modes, Riders Republic does its best to avoid the monotonicity that comes with most racing games out there.

Brownie points for the ‘Zen Mode’ which allows players to do as they please and get a hang of the game without worrying about the scores or competition. The player customisation is engaging and most in-game purchases are affordable.

Now that we’ve gotten the pros out, it’s only fair that we inform you, O’ Reader, about the drawbacks of Riders Republic. These aren’t aspects of the game that make it a drag but possibly could bog players down.

The presentations during the preparatory stages are a little too much and tend to bore players. The simplicity of the game makes mode-switching more of a necessity than an occasional thing.

Also read: Arcane launch date: Riot Games and Netflix unveil animated TV series launching on November 6.

Can Riders Republic hold up to modern AAA titles?

There aren’t many challenges the gameplay poses as the player can master the multiple modes rather swiftly and easily. At times, it’s a little difficult to make out whether certain formations are boulders or ramps.

The ‘Rewind’ option isn’t really a plus. Players could opt to correct their course if and when they go astray. When all is said and done, Riders Republic is not a game that takes itself seriously.

It’s more of a platform for users to dress up goofily and unwind with a kindred spirit and it seems to be doing a good job at it.

That sums up the Riders Republic Review from our side for now.

It’s only been 2 weeks since the worldwide launch of the PS5. However, credible rumors of the PS5’s successor, the PS5 Pro, are already here. Here is all that we know about what could potentially be the PS5 Pro.

The PS5 pro could very well blow the PS5 out of the water performance-wise!

Sony had reportedly filed a patent in January last year. The patent was about a console that had two Graphics Processing Units inside. Nvidia’s SLI and AMD’s crossfire come to mind upon hearing this. However, according to the patent, the implementation of the GPUs is going to be far more elaborate than on a PC.

Both of the GPUs would come in the Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) format and would probably be custom made AMD GPUs. The APU format was made by AMD and is basically a CPU and GPU on a single die.

This system will also have more memory and greater processing capabilities. This is also because of the multiple System on Chips (SoCs) that the PS5 Pro will sport. Not to mention the greater cloud streaming capabilities of the PS5 Pro.

The reliability of this report is pretty good as the patent describes a scalable gaming console. In the console, a second GPU will be communicatively coupled with the first GPU, and that the system is meant for home console and cloud gaming.

However,  this all still just a mere patent, and Sony has not confirmed any of this. For all we know, Sony might never let the dual GPU PS5 Pro see the light of day.

Seeing as how Nvidia has let SLI die out slowly, we think that the general trend is to keep a single GPU for all the graphics processing. This is mainly because SLI definitely undermines the capabilities of the secondary GPU.

So, the trouble arises when we have to use both GPUs equally and maximize their processing capabilities. As of now, it all seems a little too good to be true. But if anyone can do it, it’s probably Sony!
