The Tate brothers Threaten $300 Million Lawsuit against an alleged victim

Six victims have come forward to testify against the Tate brothers after their arrest. The prosecution, according to reports, has not yet presented conclusive evidence against the brothers, though.

The brothers have always maintained their innocence on those grounds. The legal team for Tate also wrote to one of the victims earlier this year asking to retract the charges. Tate’s legal team threatened the woman and her family with a $300 million lawsuit for defamation in the USA.

Tina Glandian has recently clarified the situation around the lawsuit, though. And after almost 9 months of detention, Griner was finally released in a prisoner swap between the USA and Russia. Brittney Griner saw her release guaranteed upon the USA’s release of Viktor “The Merchant of Death” Bout.

Bout’s notorious record prompted some backlash against the swap. And comedian Andrew Schultz was among the most vocal critics of the same.

The prisoner swap did stir up quite a controversy across the community. However, the WNBA is certainly set to benefit from the swap deal, if anything.

Griner had formerly spent her entire career with the Phoenix Mercury. However, her contract expired during the course of her detention in Russia.

For several months now, the United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, has been in talks with Russia over a potential prisoner swap. This would allow Brittney Griner to return home in exchange for a notorious arms dealer serving a 25-year sentence. 

As said above, negotiations have not led to anything fruitful as of yet. Comedian and podcaster, Andrew Schulz, made light of this situation earlier this year as he compared Griner situation to a hypothetical one where instead of her, it would’ve been either Michael Jordan or LeBron James stranded in Russia. 

According to Schulz, not only would US have pulled out all of the stops to get back the two greatest basketball players of all time, they might’ve gone as far as used nuclear warfare.

Of course, the latter was a joke but the hypothetical still stands as one that makes sense in a way. Both Jordan and LeBron are two of the most important cultural figures of the last 40 years in the North American sporting realm. Not getting them back would certainly paint the States in a weaker light. 

Where do the Brittney Griner negotiations stand currently? 

As of now, it has been reported by United States officials that Russia has failed to operate in ‘good faith’. Despite the fact they would getting back a valued arms dealer (Viktor Bout) back in return, Griner doesn’t seem to be coming back to the US anytime soon. 

It should be noted that Blinken and his staff are also working on getting back Paul Whelan, a man who had gone to Russia for a friend’s wedding. He unfortunately had been detained by the country on charges of espionage and placed in jail on a 16 year sentence.

Brittney Griner’s nine-year jail term upheld by Russian court

Griner was arrested on 17^th February in Russia for possession of and smuggling cannabis oil. She was sentenced to nine years in prison and her appeal has been rejected by a Russian court.

Reports suggest that Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout – known as the Merchant of Death, could be transferred to Russian authorities in exchange for the WNBA star.

Griner’s agent, Lindsay Colas, believes that her client is being used as a political pawn by Russia, whose relations with the US suffered after they invaded Ukraine earlier this year.

In a lot of ways, this is a stroke of really, really bad luck for Brittney Griner.

All she had in her possession was Cannabis oil, a substance that is not only legal in several states in the US, but also has various medicinal purposes. And yet, now she finds herself in prison for 9 years.

Trying to reverse this, the woman recently made a statement, a strong plea to the world, and the judges that may preside over her case. And frankly, it is a strong one.
